The Coton de Tulear breed is a breed of dog that was developed in the 16th century in the country of Madagascar! They were even named the Royal Dog of Madagascar in the past. It is believed that the ancestors of the Coton de Tulear were a group of small white dogs which swam across the Malagasy channel after a shipwreck.
The breed was feral at first, hunting and scavenging on Madagascar. One of the things they hunted was a small wild boar that is native to the island. One of the tribes of Madagascar took interest in the dogs and domesticated them.
