How Do I find a Reputable Breeder in my Area?

Kennel Clubs and Associations (Breed Specific as well)

This is a really good question and one that people need to ask. There are too many bad breeders out there, puppy mills and other gross things that we don’t even want to really talk about. It’s not limited to a certain breed.

One of the first things you should do is find out if the breeder is listed with any of the kennel clubs, or associations in the area. This isn’t always a sign of a reputable breeder but it is a good starting point. Sometimes people don’t like associations because the association believes something contrary to the beliefs of the breeder, like boxers and ears. This is something that you will need to research and find out for yourself.

Just because they are a breed association, doesn’t mean that they are right. Especially when it comes the Havanese Breed.

Having said that here is the American Kennel Club https://www.akc.org/ – This is for ones that are AKC registered.

There is also the Havanese Club of America – https://www.havanese.org/ – More concentrated on the Havanese Breed. Check if they are AKC registered.

Former Clients

Go on a search for former clients of the breeder, look for their dog and dogs. Sometimes they will have them listed on their website, other times you will have to do a little digging. If it is a reputable dog breeder that has nothing to hide then ask them for the names of a few people that have bought puppies from them, they will give them to you. Ask some questions, when you are looking for a dog you need information.

When quality Havanese puppies are placed in someone’s home, it is very likely that the new owners will have an opinion. They will talk about the process and the breeder of the Havanese puppies.

Small Animal Vets in the Area

You can always phone around and ask the local vets, especially dog vets and small animal vets. They can’t give you personal information about a breeder or a dog, but they will definitely be able to tell you if they know that the breeder is reputable or if they have heard of any puppy mills in the area. These guys know the puppy breeders.

Visit Local Dog Shows

Dog shows are a very interesting thing, and if you have never been to one they are quite a trip. Lots of dogs, and maybe your puppy. However, if you are looking for a good Havanese breeder in the texas area, all of the reputable breeders will be at the dog show. This is because they are trying to win points for their breeding stock and raise the value of their puppies. You will be able to walk around and visit with them and get a sense of who they are and if you want to get a puppy from them. Havanese puppies won’t always be available for viewing, but you can definitely get a feel for the Havanese breeders in texas.

If you are looking for a puppy from Ruffian Havanese they are no longer breeding Havanese puppies. Many of these breeders have tx Havanese puppies for sale. That’s ok because you can definitely find a puppy from these Havanese breeders.

Havanese puppies for sale won’t be the ad you see at the dog show. You need to make sure you spend some time connecting with the different breeders. It will however be something you can ask the breeders when you are having the conversation.
